Hisayuki Toriumi (鳥海 永行 Toriumi Hisayuki?, July 9, 1941 – February 9, 2009), sometimes credited as Eiko Toriumi, was a Japanese director best known for having directed the television program Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. He also created several anime and manga series.

Biography

Toriumi cut his teeth working on Gatchaman and several other Tatsunoko Production series of the 1970s, but broke away from Tatsunoko in 1979 to become one of the founding members of Studio Pierrot, where he worked on series such as The Wonderful Adventures of Nils and Mysterious Cities of Gold. In his later years he retired from the animation business to become a freelance novelist.
